Communications Manager

The University of Houston, 2019 - present
  • Wrote and published a 70+ story database entitled, “Research Reaching Houston” relating the stories of University of Houston research professors and the impact they’ve had on the community. (https://research.uh.edu/reaching-houston)

  • Wrote, built and sent out two monthly newsletters, “Latest Research News” and the HPE Data Science Institute’s “FrontEnd,” to stakeholders in the research community.

  • Managed a student worker who worked writing data science-related stories for the HPE Data Science Institute.

  • Became familiar and worked with Livewhale, Eventbrite, Drupal, SendIt and CASCADE CMS platforms.

  • Wrote for The Big Idea Magazine, UH Division of Research’s magazine, as well as The UH Magazine.

  • Wrote three to four blog entries a month for The Big Idea blog, a repository for articles about frequently asked questions and issues within research.

Communications Coordinator

  • Interviewed key stakeholders/donors and published stories and magazine articles.

  • Wrote and edited multi-million dollar asks, including one-pagers, campaign case statements and proposals for major campaign priorities.

  • Interacted with development officers and high-end donors, especially in regards to principal gifts, corporate and foundation relations and gift planning. 

  • Managed marketing and communication plans for clients across the University, including providing original written collateral for Corporate Relations, scholarship initiatives and the 15 colleges, including the newly formed College of Medicine.

Drafted original proposals for multi-million dollar projects, wrote alumni and donor stories and crafted presidential correspondence.

  • Taught in Houston-area classrooms, while conducting meetings and workshops, creating curriculum, and meeting anthology production/public reading deadlines
